Narrative of the Young Shepherd

At the center of the enchanting rolling meadows, resided a boy named Shepherd. His being was essentially unadulterated, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to look after his flock of ewes.
Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes across the lone tree on the hilltop were his constant companions. Day in day, looking out for his charges imbued in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.
However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. In one such instance out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty scheme.
Narratives of wild beasts preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the villagers.
One morning he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to help but saw nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a few more days. But, one day, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy raced for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of dishonesty.
The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once lost, here is difficult to regain. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
